THE PLACE BEHIND THE ADDRESS

How Movala took shape

Movala is Stober Group's two tower lakeside community at 3340 Lakeshore Road, built on the former Willow Creek Campground beside Boyce-Gyro Beach. After two years of redesign it won rezoning in 2020 and final approval in 2021, pairing 10 and 14 storey towers with townhomes and shops. The second tower was finishing in 2026.

4 acre parcel beside Boyce-Gyro Beach was the Willow Creek Campground, a short walk from Pandosy Village. The Stober family held the land for more than 30 years. Its founder, Al Stober, started his construction company in the late 1950s and later created the Landmark District. The beach next door has its own story: in 1932 Dr. Benjamin Boyce gave five lots to the Kelowna Gyro Club for a lakeshore park, and the club handed it to the City in 1974. Stober's first design, presented at a June 2019 open house, drew pushback over height and density. The company redesigned it, and its branding agency says earlier applications had struggled before a campaign gathered about 1,000 community responses.

Council approved the rezoning in fall 2020 and gave final approvals in June 2021 for about 345 homes. The approvals came with a Lanfranco Road extension, a daylit stretch of Fascieux Creek as a linear park and a path along Walnut Street to the beach. Al Stober died in 2020, and the letters AL at the centre of the new name honour him. Construction began in 2022. The 10 storey first tower is occupied, and the 14 storey Skywater tower was due for move in around late summer 2026. Ground level townhomes, live/work units and street shops face the neighbourhood, parking sits in a hidden podium, and every stall was designed with EV charging. Homes are condominium ownership, and short term rentals are not allowed.
